Most medicine reminder apps assume you are always online and that your medicine list is fine to keep on their servers. Rx101 is built the other way round: the reminders, the record and the encryption keys all live on your phone. This page explains exactly what works offline, what needs a connection, and what — if anything — ever leaves the device.
Reminders that don’t need the internet
When you add a medicine, Rx101 schedules its reminders with your phone’s own notification system. From then on they ring on time with no connection at all — in airplane mode, on a flight, in a village with no signal, or when mobile data is switched off to save money.
Missed a dose? Rx101 follows up with a reminder for the dose you haven’t marked. Logging a dose as taken or skipped, recording a blood pressure reading, or noting a symptom all work offline too.
Travelling across time zones? Rx101 notices the change and asks whether to keep your home-time schedule or switch to local time.
What needs a connection
| Feature | Internet needed? | What is sent |
|---|---|---|
| Medicine reminders | No | Nothing |
| Logging doses, vitals, symptoms, mood | No | Nothing |
| Scan the pack (medicine strips) | No | Nothing — text is recognised on the phone |
| AI prescription and lab report scan | Yes | The photo, to an AI model for that one read; Rx101 stores none of it |
| Backup | Yes | An encrypted file, to your own Google Drive or iCloud |
| Health Connect / Apple Health sync | No | Nothing — read from the phone’s own health store |
Where your data lives
- On your phone, encrypted. Your medicines, diagnoses, vitals and history are kept in an encrypted database. The key is held in the iPhone Keychain or Android Keystore.
- No health database on our side. Rx101 does not run a server that stores your medicines or health records.
- Backup to a vault you own. If you turn on backup, the file goes to your own Google Drive or iCloud and is encrypted on your phone before it is uploaded.
- No account required. You can use Rx101 as a guest. Sign in only if you want backup.
- Usage stats are opt-in. If you allow them, anonymous usage statistics never include your health data.
The full detail is in the Privacy Policy.
The honest exception: AI scanning
Reading a handwritten prescription accurately needs a large AI model, and those run in the cloud. When you start a prescription or lab report scan, the photo is sent to a trusted model such as Google Gemini or Anthropic’s Claude, used for that single read, and not stored by Rx101. Nothing is sent until you start a scan, and if you’d rather nothing leaves your phone, you can add medicines by hand or use Scan the pack, which works entirely on the device.
Questions people ask
Do Rx101 medicine reminders work without internet?
Yes. Reminders are scheduled on your phone, so they ring on time offline and in airplane mode.
Does Rx101 upload my medicine list to a server?
No. Your record stays in an encrypted database on your phone. Backup, if you turn it on, goes only to your own Google Drive or iCloud, encrypted first.
Do I need to create an account?
No. You can use Rx101 as a guest. An account is only needed for backup to your own cloud.
Is anything sent when I scan a prescription?
Yes, the photo is sent to an AI model for that one read and Rx101 stores none of it. Scanning medicine strips with Scan the pack sends nothing.
